The headboard direction is the most critical aspect of bedroom feng shui. Traditionally, the bed head should rest against a solid wall (having "support"), avoiding beds placed under windows or in open spaces. Direction-wise, aligning with the Earth's magnetic north-south line (head pointing north or south) is generally recommended for better sleep quality.
Avoid the bed facing the door: Doors are where energy flows in and out. Having the bed directly aligned with the door can cause restless sleep and frequent dreaming. If the layout doesn't allow avoidance, use a screen or curtain as a buffer.
Avoid mirrors facing the bed: Mirrors reflect energy in feng shui. A large mirror opposite or beside the bed can cause startling reflections at night, leading to subconscious tension and anxiety.
Wardrobes should not be placed right next to the bed head, as this creates a sense of oppression that can affect sleep. Dressing tables similarly should not face the bed directly — the mirror's reflective quality can disturb energy at night. If space is limited, choose storage cabinets with covers instead of open dressing tables.
Electronics in the bedroom also need attention. Items that generate electromagnetic fields — TVs, computers, chargers — should not be near the bed head. Reducing phone use before bed not only improves sleep but also reduces "restless energy" from a feng shui perspective.
Bedroom colors should be soft and warm. Avoid overly bright or cold tones. Blue tones help relaxation but shouldn't dominate (they can feel too cold); beige and light brown warm tones work better for sleep spaces.
For lighting, maintain natural daylight during the day and use soft warm light at night. Both overly bright and too dark environments disrupt sleep rhythm.
